Appointments

consultation_6Appointments are made by ringing the surgery for up to 6 weeks ahead. If you require further information the reception staff will be pleased to help.

We also now offer the facility to book appointments online via the internet. Please ask for a Patient Access leaflet from our reception staff.

To get a PIN number you can click on 'book an appointment' which is on the home page of this website.  You will then be taken through a procedure where you will need to enter your name, date of birth and a password.  You will then be given a PIN number.  This PIN number will give you only partial access to your records, ie you will ONLY be able to book and cancel appointments.  To have the ability to view your immunisations, allergies and medication and to order medication you MUST bring in proof of ID.  See viewing your medical records online.

You will need to show the receptionist two forms of identification.  One must be a picture ID and prove your date of birth and one must prove your address (this must not be older than 3 months)

Patient Access allows patients to: -

  • Book their next appointment, avoiding busy telephone lines and accessing appointments out of hours.
  • Allows you to cancel your appointments.
  • Allows you to order repeat prescriptions.
  • Allows you to update your personal details.
  • You can access Patient Access from a smartphone, download at patient.co.uk/accessapp

If you need urgent medical attention the following options are available:

  • Telephone the surgery for advice, we will transfer you to a doctor or nurse where possible, or get them to call you back.
  • For more serious problems such as chest pain you should attend the local A&E department at Macclesfield hospital.

Please see our leaflet below on how best to make use of your appointment.

Making the Most of Your Appointment

Understanding our Appointment System

Failing to Attend Appointments

The practice has a policy which states that we will remove from our list patients who repeatedly fail to attend appointments that they have made.  All six practices in Waters Green Medical Centre have this policy.  Please see below a copy of our DNA (did not attend) policy.

DNA Policy

Medical Students

We occasionally have medical students visiting the practice.  This is an important part of their training.  You will always be asked if a student can sit in a consultation and you have the right to refuse.

Please see our leaflet below.

Helping Medical Students Learn Medicine

Practice Nurses

Our nurses have surgeries every morning and afternoon where they provide nursing services such as dressings, injections and vaccinations. A triage service is available each day between 08:30 - 12.30 and 2pm - 5pm for telephone advice.

Speaking to a Doctor on the Telephone

When a patient wishes to speak to a doctor, reception schedules a telephone consultation which is recorded on the doctors computer screen, along with other appointments for the day. The receptionist is required to record the time of the call, the name of the patient with a contact number and other information to help the doctor determine the nature and priority of the call.

Alternatively, each doctor has a named secretary who is there to help if your doctor is not available to speak with you personally. They will help in any way possible.

Get Referred for Further Care

The first step to getting referred is to see your doctor or nurse practitioner, they will be able to discuss the choices that are available to you and start the referral process. Patients now have the choice of going to different hospitals for their treatment through Choose and Book, this allows the patient more freedom over who they see, where they are seen and when they are seen.

For more information please collect a leaflet from the surgery or call your doctors secretary.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Failure to Attend Appointments

All six practices in Waters Green Medical Centre have the same policy for DNA of appointments.

Please see the leaflet below.

Failure to attend appointments could mean that we remove you from the practice list.
